The main subject of Dr. Atanas OrachevÂ’s book “Bulgaria in the European cartographic concepts” covers one of AugustusÂ’ ideas laid down in the first European map. It addresses both Bulgarian citizens and their children around the world with information on Bulgaria preserved even after the 15th c.  when Bulgaria was conquered by the Ottoman Turks and in the following 5 centuries, until 1878, when the state was included within the borders of the Ottoman Empire. The author inspires in readers his own love for the homeland, his admiration for the deeds of the precursors of scores of generations before our time. He supplies explanations on the changes of its borders as a result of a number of historical events and the role played by remarkable persons even during the many ages before setting up the Bulgarian state.

The author succeeds in showing the reader that the maps should be perceived also as a reflection of the most important or fateful political events and geo political ideas concerning Bulgaria in the background of the Balkan and European history.
