Christianity becomes BulgariaÂ’s official religion in 9th c. The Bulgarian traditions in this field are rich enough as well as the Bulgarian cultural, historical and architectural heritage. The monasteries reflect the stages the Bulgarian state underwent. Unfortunately, many churches and monasteries were destroyed during Ottoman domination; others were badly affected by time due to bad preservation and the years that have passed.
Still what is left is definitely worth seeing. If you donÂ’t have the opportunity or wish to come to Bulgaria, you may explore the religious heritage of a people with a history older than 1300 years by means of this multimedia disk.
It contains information about 105 Bulgarian monasteries, as the 13 most significant of them are presented with rich photo material.
Some of the most famous monasteries included in the multimedia CD are: Aladja Monastery, Arbanassi, Bachkovo, Batoshevski, Boboshevski, Cherepishki, Dragalevski, Drianovski, Ivanovo Rock Monastery, Kaloferski, Kilifarevo, Kremikovski, Muglishki, Rila Monastery, Rozhenski, Zemenski and Troyan Monasteries.
The articles about the monasteries are written by the well known Bulgarian historian associate professor PhD Plamen Pavlov.
