We offer you a rare firefighter helmet, whose model can be dated to the beginning of 20th c. The helmet was worn by a firefighter officer of Sofia fire brigade in the 1940s. The model is the typical royal one and is made of brass tin. What is characteristic of the old officer model is the high crest on top.There is a flexible metal strap at the front, which has a certain use: when the firefighter was on a parade, riding a horse, the metal piece was to bounce and make a bang sound when touching the visor. At the front of the helmet can be noticed 2 slight openings where the royal firefighter emblem used be placed. After WWII, during the communist rule, all royal symbols were banned and destroyed. Therefore the royal symbol was replaced by a communist one.The symbol you see is an early communist model, with big five-pointed star and firefighter equipment for putting out fire. The high crest is fixed by means of specific rivets to the shell. One of the chinstraps is torn but it can be easily restored.  The helmet shell is of M size, EU 56/ US 7. As a whole, it is in good condition that will appeal to the collectors and besides the model is rare enough. In early communism, every firefighter returned his helmet when retiring or if the model was being replaced. The old helmets were to be destroyed. That is why, nowadays, a helmet of the model you see is really hard to come across! Don't let it slip away and make it part of your collection!
