Bulgarian Order Peoples Liberty 1941-1944, 3rd Emission, 1st Class « Bulgarian Orders, Medals & Badges « Home
Instituted: by decree, on 9th September 1945
Awarded to: Bulgarian and foreign citizens (only one foreigner). It was awarded posthumously, too.
Form: The first class is shaped as a five-angle star; it is of white enamel, gold like framed on the edge. The main star is 52 mm in diameter and lies on another, yellow colored star of 54 mm in diameter. In a gold medallion, on the enameled star, is placed Christo Botev's face image. Botev was a poet and National Hero (1848-1876). The image is surrounded by the following inscription: For People's Liberty 1941-1944. The difference between the first and second classes is the red enamel of the five-angle star.

Emissions: The first emission is characterized by a screw back. The second one has a ribbon, and Christo Botev's face points more to the right. The third, last emission is with a left side-view of Botev's face. At first, the order is characterized by a screw back, but later on a red ribbon with one or two blue lines on the edge comes into use (for the first and second class respectively).
