Vassil Kazandjiev is a successor of the great composers Konstantin Iliev, Pancho Vladigerov and the conductor Dobrin Petkov.
As a conductor, Vassil Kazandjiev has contributed to the achievement of high European level in Bulgarian performing art. In the period 197-1964 he worked for Sofia National Opera. In 1962 he established Sofia Soloists Chamber Ensemble with which he toured successfully all over the world. From 1979 until 1993 he was at the head of the Sofia National Radio Symhony Orchestra.
He has done dozens of recordings for the Radio and Television, as well as for sound carriers, with Balkanton and some foreign companies.
The compact disc features four pieces by Vassil Kazandjiev. “Living Icons” is inspired by the inauguration of the crypt at “Saint Alexander Nevsky” Memorial Church.
