American composer Victoria Bond whose stage music and chamber works enjoy great popularity in the USA, is also famous as conductor in her home country, Europe and Asia. The CD includes seven of her compositions each of which highlights various aspects of her talent. Bond is very good at logically structuring the small forms imbuing them at the same time with emotionality and musical ideas. For example, the wonderful piece Batucada, variations on a Brazilian samba for piano, or Sonata for Cello and Piano, the expressive means of which have originated from some techniques characteristic of 20th century music like Schoenberg's serial technique. Weddings & Bar Mitzvcahs, built on a Jewish folk song with a beautiful melody is also an excellent concert piece. The Dreams of Flying String Quartet demonstrates the composer's skill in the combination of timbres and the development of basic motifs, in interweaving the voices.
The works feature the expert performance of young pianist Anna Stoytcheva whose career took her among the American top pianists. Violinist Georgi Valtchev, flutist Kremena Acheva and the string quartet comprising G. Valtchev, Nikolai Gagov, Valentin Gerov and Hristo Tanev complete the impressions of this remarkable CD.
