Ivan Eftimov is among the most outstanding representatives of the Bulgarian piano school. He was a pupil of Prof. Mara Balsamova, Prof. Maria Greenberg, and Prof. Isak Mihnovsky. Presently he is Professor at the State Academy of Music in Sofia. With a preference for 20th century music, he is often the first performer of works by Stravinsky, Richard Strauss, Mikis Theodorakis, Shostakovich and mostly works by Bulgarian composers. He made the first studio recording of Pancho VladigerovÂ’s Sonatina Concertante at the Bulgarian National Radio, which was greatly appreciated by the composer himself.
The present release is a wonderful proof of Ivan EftomovÂ’s appeal for contemporary Bulgarian music. The programme creates interest with its selection of composers and works, arranged in chronological order according to the date of their creation.
