Vassil Levski desk medal
On the obverse of the medal is represented the image of Vasil Levski with his name. The medal is silver-like, embossed and massive. On the reverse is shown a lion, the symbol of the Bulgarian State. The lettering says: ‘Bulgarian Revolutionary Central Committee’. This committee was responsible for organizing Bulgaria’s liberation movement.
Additional information: Vassil Levski (1837-73), a Bulgarian revolutionary leader, considered by many as the greatest Bulgarian national hero of all times. He took part in the Bulgarian legion of Rakovski's in 1862. From 1869 Levski led the organization of a secret network of armed revolutionary committees within Bulgaria. At the peak of his deed, however, he was captured by the Turks in 1873 and hanged in Sofia.
