This is a very interesting remake of the of German K98 Mauser bayonet - a rare original Bulgarian communist combat knife.
During the WWII Bulgarian Royal Army was supplied with all kind of military equipment by its allies Germany and Austria. Right after the war all German bayonets Mauser K98 left were re-used as this new model Bulgarian combat knife K98. We have came across even some Wafenampt mark stamped pieces.
Initialy in '50s they were used only in the Military High School. After that, during '70s this model was used by the other army units in extremly limited quantity - only on barracks duty. Àt the beginning of the '80s they were replaced by the AK 47 bayonets. Only few of the Mauser remakes survived the communist regime. They are quite rare in present days.
There are known two different types of this combat knife: with leather- and with chrome - plated iron K98 scabbard.
Here we offer the second type - with oxidized metal scabbard of combination with leather. This model was most used by the standing guards / sentries, and received the name "Guard's knife". Judjing on the knife condition we suppose this one was made back in the early postwar years.
Perfect make, german steel, full oxidation. Blade very well preserved, with very few miniature holes at some places. The grip consists of two bakelite parts on both sides - remake of the K98 . The scrossguard is stamped by the communist army "23448", where the knife was enlisted to. There is one more Bulgarian army stamp – “2” in circle, struck by the Bulgarian Military factory.
The oxidation is gone at some places. The knife comes with scabbard made of real thick leather with attached carrier.
Full lenght of the knife: 27,7 cm /10,9 inches
Blade's lenght: 16,6 cm /6,6 inches.
Rare combat knife! VG authentic used condition.
