Bulgarian folk music comprises complex sound patterns, original rhythm and rich thematic and emotional content. The musical instruments by which it is performed make it radically different from the music of the other European peoples. The purpose of this release is to present the multi-color face of the traditional Bulgarian instrumental music. It features performances with authentic folk instruments (some of which are nearly extinct from the music convention) of ancient origin, who has left their deep trace from times immemorial. Besides the kaval (shepherd's pipe), the bagpipe, gadoulka and gousla (different types of rebecs), the douduk (wooden pipe) and the dvoyanka (double whistle), there are also some examples that are no longer of widespread use: pottery, copper dishes, tongs, mill clacks, clappers, etc. The CD shows examples of foreign instruments that have well adapted to traditional Bulgarian music. For instance, zourna (a kind of clarinet), the saz, the oud and so on.
