Bulgarian folk Songs from the region of the Pirin mountain performed by Vessela and Lyuben Bojkov, arranged by Emil Kolev and Hristofor Radanov.
The program includes favorite songs from Pirin Macedonia representing an interesting phenomenon in Bulgarian folk music, as they are equally popular and loved not only in the Pirin region but also throughout Bulgaria (usually the listeners choose to hear what is close to them, that is music from their native region). Having originated at a later stage of development of the folk tradition, these songs are closer to the town culture. The duet Vessela and Luben BOJKOV duet made their first recordings 15 years ago and quickly won recognition. Up to that time Vessela grew up with her fatherÂ’s songs. (Luben Bojkov is a famous folk singer who enjoys an active concert career and has numerous recordings.) The beautiful voices of both father and daughter and their excellent ensemble performance rank them among the leading Bulgarian folk singers. Their repertoire ranges from lyrical love and sad immigrant songs to merry everyday tunes and songs performed at the table.
The release features some of their most popular songs which are the most eloquent illustration of the combination between rhythm and metre from the authentic Pirin folk music and the European melos and harmony. This is what turns the music of Pirin Macedonia into a bridge thrown between the distant past and the present day, between the different folk regions in Bulgaria.
