Pirin Ensemble was founded more than 55 years ago in Blagoevgrad. The ensemble quickly established itself as one of the best and attractive formations in Bulgaria. Its repertoire includes original songs and dances mainly from the Pirin region. But in recent years the ensemble increasingly features also music from other folk areas. The album “Old Treasure” shows this variety of music and dance, presented on the stage by the extremely beautiful costumes of the performers. Divided into two parts, the programme includes myths and rituals, holidays and weekdays not only from Southwest Bulgaria, but also from other Bulgarian folklore regions. Swift shoppe ring dances (horos) alternate with the exquisite women ring dances, with Pirin dances and the hefty men’s Dobrudja dancing. The choir, orchestra and soloists with their skill and talent are equal partners which shape the overall stage picture. PIRIN, the Bulgarian ensemble for songs and dances, is a generous gift to the world! – This recognition comes from Columbia Concert House, USA and it summarizes in one sentence the creative achievements of the ensemble and its impact on the viewers.
