The offered book is the first attempt made by European country to summarize the threatened animal species and also to give their natural conservation status and distribution in ecosystems. There are included tables with the different endangered species ordered by certain criteria such as presence in the Red Book of endangered species, the Red list of IUCN, Ramsar, ETS, BONN etc. Illustrations of some species, index of the Bulgarian, English and Latin names of the species are also included in this book intended for researches and other people with specific interest in endangered animal species.
Knowledge about the faunistic diversity in Bulgaria is more advanced than in most European countries. According to the National Biological Diversity Conservation Strategy in Bulgaria exist more than 40 000 animal species. This is an especially large wealth of species for the territory of Bulgaria. Moreover, nearly all European bats live in Bulgaria and Bulgarian fauna of Macromammalia is among the richest in Europe.
