Christian orthodox plastic relief icon "St. George", silver plated

This beautiful plastic relief icon makes part of the series issued by Bulgarian mint "Christian Saints and artifacts". The plastic is made of massive silver plating brass, with oxidization ( overlay the silver surface). It is mounted on silver plated frame with size 9 x 13 cms, over a base of black velvet. Nice certificate-booklet (in Bulgarian) joins the icon.

But first of all, he is symbol of courage, will and valor. St. George is respected as patron of warriors. The Orthodox church commemorates him on 6th may, when is the officil holiday of Bulgarian army.

George comes from Greek "georgos" and means "farmer". St. george is patron of farmers, too.
