This excellent book is a result of a long and detailed research made by the author, Alexander Vachkov.
(You may already know his other two books - "The Balkan war 1912 - 1913 ", and "The Serb-Bulgarian war 1885".) This is the first book to reveal detailed information on Bulgarian military uniforms for all the period from National liberation till 1945.
The book is written in an excellent style. The author has devoted a lot of time and efforts to award the readers with a book rich on information. For each of the periods he has included brief historical information followed by description of the uniforms of all rank officers (from soldier to general) in their combat/line, casual, official or parade variations; as well as different army branches such as artillery, cavalry, navy, air forces, leibguardians, WWII paratroopers, etc. What would be most curious to the collectors are the illustrations of uniforms, joined by authentic photos and macro photos of different types insignia, cap badges, monograms; shoulder straps, caps, belts, tunics, etc. The book is richly illustrated, there were also used photographs belonging to private collectors. Some of them are so rare that they haven't been seen by the public at all!
The book includes information on the uniforms of Bulgarian hussar regiment (part of the Russian army cavalry); First and Second Bulgarian legions (1860 - 1870s); Bulgarian revolutionists and volunteers movement / opulchenci (1878); First Bulgarian army after liberation - Zemska ; the East Rumelia police; Army of Bulgaria principality (1879 - 1885); Uniforms after the Serb-Bulgarian war (1886 - 1899); uniforms during the Balkan wars and WWI ( 1900 - 1919); uniforms between the wars (1920 - 1936); WWII uniforms (1936 - 1945).
The book is in Bulgarian only but the reach illustration material will be useful to collectors and researchers.
