This is an extremely rare entrenching shovel, made in Germany. Model WW1. It was used in Bulgaria during the two world wars. The shovel is very well preserved due to the balck pitch it was covered with during its half-century stay in military stock house .
The shovel is marked by the German factory "Goldenberg" . Its logo is partially preserved , clearly seen is only the end of lettering : "berg" . The same mark is seen further below of not so good quality. On the other side of the blade is seen a number stamp "1086". The wooden handle is also stamped with same number 1086, most probably this is Bulgarian army entry number.
Full legth: 54 cm / 21,3 inches.
Shovel completes with authentic leather carrier, stamped by the German producer "Adalbert Fischer , Berlin C. 2".
The metal part and wood were covered with conservating black pitch that we removed just before taking the pictures.
Great find in authentic, very well preserved condition !
