BULGARIAN COIN Set 1, 2, 5, 10 20, 50 stotinki, and 1 Lev 2002 proof
In 1997 the Bulgarian National Bank tied the national currency, the Lev, to the German Mark. From the beginning of 2002 the Lev has been pegged to the common European currency, the EURO. This set contains circulation coins of 1, 2, 5, 10 20 and 50 stotinki from the 2002 issue in proof quality. Included is also the new bi-metal 1 Lev coin featuring St. Ivan of Rila.
Proof quality sets of circulation coins are a rarity in Bulgarian coin history. The latest set was minted in 1981. This set will probably be the last proof quality collection before Bulgaria joins the European Monetary Union and adopts the EURO as its national currency. The mintage of this proof set is limited to 10 000.
