The Sofia Philharmonic is the oldest symphony orchestra in Bulgaria. It has performed under the baton of a great number of prominent, world famous conductors like Herman Abendroth, Charles Buck, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Igor Markevich, Carlo Zecchi, Yegeny Svetlanov, etc. The orchestra's art enjoys great recognition throughout Europe and America which the orchestra has toured extensively.
Emil Tabakov is also to mention. His art enjoys high recognition both at home and abroad. He is the author of symphonic and chamber works. Some of his compositions have been awarded by the Union of Bulgarian Composers.
