BULGARIAN BALKAN WARS 1912-1913 VETERAN Medal, awarded to Civilians

This medal was instituted by a decree in 1933. It was awarded to all living participants that took place in the Balkan wars including civilians, medical people and volunteers that had certain contribution to the war efforts.

The medal for the Balkan Wars is made of white metal whereas the medal for WWI is made of yellow metal.

The obverse of the medal bears the state coat of arms surrounded by laurel and oak leaves; the reverse contains a wreath of wheat-ears, laurel, oak leaves, and roses. Within the wreath are inscribed the years of opening and conclusion of the Balkan war 1912-1913.

The ribbon on which the medals for the Balkan wars were suspended is green, bordered on both sides by two white and one red stripe. When the medals were awarded to people who didn't participate directly, their ribbons had white strip in the center like this one; when the medals were awarded to people that had perished the strip in the center was of black color.

The medal for the Balkan wars was conferred upon 30000 people.
