DJURA GAIDA is traditional Bulgarian folk instrument outspread in the Thrace region, Northern Bulgaria and Dobrudja. It is smaller and a bit easier to play on compared with the Kaba gaida. Djura gaida is known by its bright, sharp, penetrating sound and a high-pitched register.
The instrument we offer is in D (re) pitch.
Remarkable about gaida we are offering is that all wooden parts are made of the rare HINAP tree “Zizyphus jujuba mill”. It distinguishes for a very high quality and solidity, perfect material for the make of professional music instruments.

The chanter / "gaidanitsa is 30,8 cm / 12'' long ( together with the tin part that enter in the hub ). The drone pipe "ruchilo" consists of 4 parts/ appropriate for professional players too. If removed the second upper part the drone can get key of G. That way if one have 2 chanter - in G and D the gaida can be played in one of the prefered pitches. Total ruchilo length - 70,8cm / 28'' Diameter of the chanter glavina hub - 16mm; ruchilo hub - 17mm; duhalo hub - 15,5 mm.
The wooden parts are of their natural color and have not been threatened with chemical or coloring agents. For the make of the bag is used a young goat skin. The insertion parts are made of black plastic material, decorated with metal rings that also gives more strength and stability.

About the master:
The name of our Djura Gaida master is Yordan Vassilev. He is known as one of the best masters of Bulgarian traditional music instruments and he is also among the most gifted musicians in south Bulgaria.
He is born in 1945 in a family of musicians. He started playing bag pipe and kaval when he was a little child. 16 years old he made his first public appearance with an orchestra. Initially he took part in the ensemble of Sliven. Later in 1968, when the famous Philip Koutev school was founded he won the job contest and started as a Gaida and Kaval teacher, where he has been teaching some of the most famous and talented contemporary Bulgarian musicians.
