Bulgarian Order Madara Horseman , 1st class with Swords

Instituted: by decree of the Presidium of the Great Assembly on 4th August 1966
Awarded to: citizens of foreign countries, diplomats, people working in the social and military sphere as well as citizens who had great achievements in establishing friendship and amicable relations with the PeopleÂ’s Republic of Bulgaria.
Form: Miniature image of the Horseman of Madara placed in the center; of white-color enamel and five-angle shape. Gilt-covered rays surround the five-angle shape. The swords signifying military category are below the ribbon. The order is 50 mm in diameter and the miniature for daily use is 20 mm. The second class is made of silver. There are two classes: with swords (for military personnel) and without swords (for citizens). The order is characterized by a white neck ribbon with the National colors on the edges.

Awarded: The first person awarded with the order is dr. Karoy Prat, an ambassador in Bulgaria of the Republic of Hungary (from 1963 to 1966).
