In her second compact disc, released by Gega New, the cellist Kalina Krusteva has included two magnificent concertos giving testimony to her performing mastership. It is because they require not only virtuosity, free from any type of technical impediments, but also a very specific emotionality, along with experience in the dramaturgy, which is very specific for both the concerts by Schumann and Elgar. Kalina Krusteva's recording speaks eloquently of her brilliant creative development (a pupil of the "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" State Academy of Music in Sofia, graduate of the Royal Academy of Music - London, holder of diplomas from master classes for cellists given by Misha Mayski, Robert Cohen, Steven Isserlis, etc.
Robert Schumann's concerto is full of lyricism and impetuousness of feelings; the images are vividly portrayed, the cantilena flexibly brims over to improvisational and recitative-declamatory episodes. With the same inspiration and true devotion the performer interpreters Edward Elgar's concerto - the last great work of the famous English composer. In fact both the two pieces of music possess a pure romantic explosiveness of emotions, poetry, and are built on the principle of the contrast comparisons of moods, harmonies, tempos, solo and orchestral episodes. The four movements of the concerto constitute an original cycle of diversity and changeable melodies and metrical rhythms re-creating the opulence of states and musical ideas in Elgar. The recordings are made with the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted, respectively, by Boris Hinchev and Milen Natchev.
