Chamber-instrumental works created in different years by Milcho LEVIEV, the well-known Bulgarian composer who lives from many years in the USA, are presented in this CD. The release gives an idea of the varied authorÂ’s endeavours, and indicates the directions of his creativity towards a harmony between form and emotional content. Characteristic for Leviev's style is the diversity of compositional methods used; his melody and the way of its display in the musical space are impressive features as well. Anyone who hears the programme of this CD will get an idea of the emotional nature of Milcho Leviev, who skillfully creates psychological conditions. In this respect of particular interest are the 7 miniatures for harp, vibraphone, viola and bass-clarinet named A ChildÂ’s Day, the piano pieces Night Mood and the sorrowful Brothers, dedicated to the artist Yoan Leviev and to Emil Boyadjiev. The impressive Toccatina and the wonderful Augsburg Polka are concert pieces composed with fantasy and humour. Along with these the CD includes two works dating from Leviev's student years and early periods (the 1950s and 60s) - Sonata for Violin and Piano and the String Quartet in honour of Paul Hindemith. The works in the release are performed by Milcho Leviev himself (on piano) and by other outstanding Bulgarian musicians from different generations. Bearing in mind the fact that his music was banned in Bulgaria for several decades and little known for that reason, one should praise the idea to gather and release in a CD part of the woks of this original author and remarkable jazzman. This makes it a significant phenomenon for the Bulgarian culture.
