Instituted: on 2/14 August 1889 by a Special Princely Decree. The decoration was awarded to all those who had spent at least 10 years of continuous military service and troughout all that time had distinguished themselves by their zealous, exemplary and useful... performance.

The 10 years Service Cross has the shape of the Leopold cross with plain edges and 34 cm long cross arms adorned with dotted lines. The Cross for officers is made of silver or white metal alloy, while that for non - commissioned officers of bright bronze coloured one.

Obverse: in a medallion between cross arms appears the cipher of the Sovereign, beneath - the Roman figure "X" marking the number of years of service; the outer circle bears the circumscription: "Otlichna Sluzhba" (Excellent Service) separated by a crown.

Reverse: an identical medallion is adorned with a crowned Bulgarian lion carged with a rounded Saxon shield.
