Rare Royal Bulgarian Officer's Parade Overcoat, 1899 Model

We offer you an absolutely rare and original parade overcoat for winter conditions, which was used by an officer of 22nd Royal Infantry regiment of commanding.
To be more precise, we should mention that the officer served as a colonel in “22nd infantry of His Royal Highness Carl Eduard, Saxe-Coburg and Gotha Herzog.” The garment is made of a grayish blue, soft, woolen material especially used for the make of the officers’ clothes.
The whole inside surface of the overcoat is covered by lining material. The blue collar has reseda-colored tabs. Each tab is padded by a thin, yellow piece made of tin. The overcoat’s edging colors vary from light blue to white. The color of the tabs, shoulder pieces and edging is specific to 22nd Infantry regiment.
The buttons come in two rows. What is interesting to note is that next to each button row is placed a row of buttonholes. The buttons are made of gold washed metal and have the image of a lion on them. On their lower part reads the name of the Austrian producer: "Bruder Schneider Wien". There is a belt at the back of the overcoat. Below can be noticed the overcoat slash having small gold washed buttons, too. The overcoat is characterized by 2 hand and one inside pockets. The left hand pocket has a specially made opening for the hilt of an officer’s sword.
The overcoat is of M size, the sleeve is 63 cm/25 inches long.
The garment we offer you is very rare and comes from a private collection: that is why it is well preserved. The overcoat is absolutely authentic and comes in perfect condition. It has never been worn, which is why the shoulder pieces of 22nd Infantry regiment are missing, for they have never worn.
Overcoats in such a good condition are very hard to find, even when it comes to museum exhibits. This item is for serious uniform collectors only, who will definitely appreciate its condition, so well preserved despite the long period of 100 years that has passed.

Historical background: The overcoat’s model is rare and old and was introduced to the royal Bulgarian army by order No 271 dated to 1899. A considerable number of the Bulgarian officers wore precisely this model of overcoats during the Balkan war of 1912. The war found the Bulgarian army badly equipped and not all of the officers were provided with the newer model of a combat overcoat. Thus, the older parade garment came into use. However, during the first fights it became clear that due to the lighter color of the overcoat as well as the gold like shoulder pieces and buttons, the Bulgarian army faced great losses in terms of officers.
