Extremely Rare Museum item: Bulgarian Royal Leibguardian parade tunic & belt

We are pleased to offer this extremely rare royal parade tunic with aglets and belt belonged to a warrant officer of the Leibguardian Mounted Convoy of His Royal Majesty.
The Royal convoy was founded in 1879, when on July 12 the guards escorted Knyaz Alexander I for the first time. Throughout the years the structure of the guards has changed from convoy to squadron, regiment and after 1942 - division, but the uniform model and appearance retained almost the same.

Most probably the uniform we offer was worn in 1930s at the time of King Boris III.
It is made of soft woolen material of red color. The collar and the sleeves end are welted. On the shoulder piece is placed textile sign, which indicates the rank - warrant officer of the Personal Cavalry Convoy. The shoulder pieces buttons are silver-like with crowned "B" on - the insignia of King Boris III. There are oblong buttons on the front and back of the tunic. The lining is made of cotton; on its lower part are visible two stamps. The upper one is Bulgarian royal army acceptance mark. The other one represents abbreviation that stands for Leibguardian Mounted Regiment of H. R.H.

The tunic comes with an authentic textile knitted belt with pendants typical only for the Bulgarian guard uniform. The set includes also a very specific aglet cord that was to be attached to the neck and hanged at front of the uniform.
Tunic is of M size, sleeve's full length: 61cm/ 24 inches.

General information:
Тhe uniform of Bulgarian Prince’s convoy (later the Leibguardian Mounted Regiment of H. R.H. His Royal Majesty) is one of the most gorgeous and beautiful military uniforms of the late 19th c. It was introduced by a decree from 1879. Prince (Kniaz) Alexander Ist Battenberg him self determined the smallest details of this elegant dress. The Prince wanted the uniform to looks like those of the Grodno hussars (green dolman, crimson pants). Later it was decided for a white braided dolman in dark red color and pants in turquoise blue, grey fur cap decorated with badge in the form of St. Alexander order and surmounted by an eagle feather. The uniform model was first tailored by master tailor from Berlin.
At the same beginning Bulgarian army was strongly influenced by Russia. Therefore, by Russian model the Guardian unit was called “Leib Konvoi” Mounted Convoy of his Majesty. Later its name changed to “Leibgvardejski na NV Konen Polk”  Leibguardian Mounted Regiment of H. R.H. After 1942 it’s already a division.
The Bulgarian Prince’s convoy was founded in 1879, when on July 12 the guards escorted the Bulgarian knyaz for the first time. That's why 12 July is the official holiday of the National guards unit.  Their mission is not only representing the military traditions and rituals, but also to be center for their revival and enrichment in order to preserve and approve the national identity. The National Guards Unit has its own war flag, seal, insignia and uniform. The Guards' uniform was created in 1883 and includes elements of Bulgarian national traditions and symbols.
